Privacy Policy

Legere collects nothing.

Effective June 22, 2026

There is no Legere server. The app does not phone home. It talks only to Wikipedia, directly — there is no middleman.

No servers, no tracking

Legere has no backend. The developer does not operate any server that the app communicates with. The app contains no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no third-party tracking SDKs, and no accounts or sign-in. Nothing you do in the app is ever sent to the developer, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.

What the app connects to

The only network connection Legere makes is directly to the Wikimedia / Wikipedia public APIs, to fetch the things you ask for: article text, summaries, images, search results, and nearby places. There is no intermediary service in between.

As with any request to a website, Wikimedia’s servers can see standard request information such as your IP address and a User-Agent string (Legere sends a descriptive User-Agent, as Wikimedia’s API etiquette requests). Those requests are handled by the Wikimedia Foundation and governed by the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy, not by Legere.

Location (Nearby)

If you use the Nearby map, Legere asks for permission to use your location while the app is open. Your coordinates are used at that moment to query Wikimedia’s geosearch API for articles about places around you.

What stays on your device

Your bookmarks, reading history, reading preferences, and cached article text and images are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere. They may be included in your own device or iCloud backup, which you control through iOS. Deleting the app removes this data from your device.

Children

Legere collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
